The Host Organization

  • You will volunteer for Journeys Within Our Community -JWOC , a youth development non-profit organization partnering with low-income youth in Siem Reap Cambodia for over 15 years.
  • Since 2006, JWOC has supported over 1,500 young people, providing quality education, assisting them in finding decent employment and reducing inequalities
  • JWOC’s vision is that all Cambodian youth contribute to the sustainable development of their society. Their mission is to partner with Cambodian youth to fulfill their potential in education, employment, and engagement with their communities.

Project Brief

  • Suitable for: Experienced or Retired professional
  • Project type: Unpaid Volunteer project
  • Location: Siem Reap Cambodia
  • Time commitment: 9 am 5 pm Monday to Friday
  • Duration: Minimum 3 months
  • Start date: Preferably May. The project is ongoing, and you can join at any time, depending on availability
  • Reports to: Director 

Deliverables

In this volunteer role, you will evaluate the impact of JWOC’s Scholarship and Better Futures Programs and assess the needs of its beneficiaries.

The evaluation will provide tangible recommendations for our youth development strategy for the coming years. This evaluation will determine:

  • Program effectiveness: Whether our programs successfully achieve our mission and contribute to our vision.
  • Areas for improvement: Identify areas where JWOC’s programs can be improved or eliminated to enhance effectiveness.

Specific deliverables for the Program assessment include

  • Project timeline and scope of work: A detailed plan outlining the project’s objectives, methodologies, and timelines.
  • Needs assessment: Evaluate whether the program meets the needs of youth upon graduation and if it will continue to do so in the future.
  • Written report: A comprehensive report summarizing the findings of the program assessment, including data analysis and conclusions.
  • Recommendations and action plan: Proposed recommendations for program improvements and a plan for implementing these recommendations.

Working Environment

  • Volunteers will work at JWOC’s office, located in a traditional Khmer villa that also houses classrooms for students and features an open garden.
  • It is a simple yet vibrant working environment where you will collaborate with Cambodian colleagues and students. This collaborative approach fosters creativity and provides opportunities for skill-sharing and cultural exchange.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field

  • Experience: Prior experience in data collection, interviewing, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and report writing.

  • Skills: Excellent English language skills (written and spoken)

  • Software proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R) is preferred.
